As it is tradition, new year brings in new resolutions and the will for new beginnings. I have been brooding over many new projects in the past year. One of them has been to offer better support services for women in Scotland (and over the world where I can from a distance) as they make their journey however different through motherhood. This year has seen me becoming one of the admin in the local Positive Birth movement group and I had the chance to work with many mothers and it was an enlightening experience. I have witnessed a lot and been humbled many times by the strength and resilience of mothers, some going through empowering moments and others having to make the most heartbreaking decisions of their lives. Women are strong but they do not and should not have to be strong alone.
So for 2019 I will be offering more ways to support new parents, my door will be open for special drop in sessions for a friendly chat and for birth support groups. I will be working with more of the wonderful birth workers around Glasgow to ensure there is as much information out there on the services available locally to new parents. I will still be offering birth photography as well as maternity, nursing and lifestyle documentary sessions but as I am focusing on wellbeing and support for budding new families I have made the decision to also centre my photography work at the beginning of this year towards newborns. I know this is an overwhelming time for new parents so I have decided to offer a new simple session, it takes place in studio in a very comfortable setting and will concentrate on three simple poses and close up detail portraits, this allows for the session to both be easily fitted in the busy schedule of new parents, be as comfortable as possible for the new baby or babies and I have found this more than enough to allow for a lovely variety of images. Longer and more bespoke sessions will still be available but I love the simplicity of this new process and so far have received good feedback from the parents who have tested it.
I look forward to this new year and to all the families I will have the chance to work with. I hope I will witness many wonderful journeys and help new parents to have a positive experience as they grow their families.
